Introduction

The integration of plant and animal agriculture is a crucial aspect of modern farming practices, and Indonesia is no exception. This study aims to analyze the potential carrying capacity of plantations in the development of ruminant patterns of animal palm oil integration at PT Socfin Indonesia Bangun Bandar.

The plant integration system of planting is an integrated agricultural business that is very efficient and has become part of the agricultural culture of the people in Indonesia. This system involves the integration of plant and animal agriculture, where waste from oil palm plantations is used as animal feed, and the results of animal husbandry have a positive impact on the soil and oil palm plants. The Socfin garden, located in the Bahorok District, is one of the largest oil palm plantations in Indonesia, with a significant potential for ruminant development.

This study was conducted from February to March 2023 using census research methods in villages in the Socfin garden. The sample was taken using the Slovin formula involving 60 respondents. The purpose of this sampling is to interview respondents to find information about ruminant farms. Data analysis included descriptive analysis, LQ (Location Quotient), livestock density, feed concentration index, carrying capacity of agricultural and plantation waste, and the capacity to increase ruminants.

Results

The results of the study show that the Socfin garden has a significant potential in developing ruminants. There are two basic areas for ruminants, each with a substantial carrying capacity. In the Bahorok District area, the carrying capacity of ruminant livestock reaches 44,632.78 Animal Unit (ST). The analysis also shows that the area available for livestock development shows great potential, with forage feed planting strategies along the plantation area can be optimized to increase the availability of animal feed, and minimize the negative environmental impacts of agricultural waste.

Analysis of the Potential Carrying Capacity of Ruminants

The Socfin garden has several factors that support ruminant development through the pattern of animal palm oil integration. First, the area available for livestock development shows great potential. With two basic areas that have been identified, forage feed planting strategies along the plantation area can be optimized to increase the availability of animal feed, and minimize the negative environmental impacts of agricultural waste.

Second, the results of the analysis show that the carrying capacity of ruminants in Bahorok District is very promising. With a capacity of more than 44 thousand ST, this shows that the garden can accommodate large livestock populations without harming the balance of the local ecosystem. This carrying capacity is also very important to maintain the sustainability of agricultural and livestock businesses in the region.

Application of the Integration System

The development of palm oil integration patterns at PT Socfin Indonesia not only provides economic benefits for farmers, but also creates better biodiversity. The application of this system can increase the efficiency of resource use, where waste from oil palm plantations can be used as animal feed, while the results of animal husbandry can have a positive impact on the soil and oil palm plants.

By utilizing existing resources, as well as optimizing feed management and maintenance of livestock, it is hoped that this business can produce large benefits both economically and ecologically. Given the importance of sustainability and efficiency in modern agriculture, this integration system is the right step to increase the productivity and welfare of the farming community around the Socfin garden.
