Introduction

Percut Pantai Village, located in Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, is a strategic fish auction center that plays a crucial role in the marine trade industry. The village serves as a dual-function hub, where sea products are sold and floating restaurants operate. This study aims to explore the fish auction activities, understand the income of marine products, and analyze the influence of socioeconomic factors on the income of traders in this region.

Background

The marine trade industry is a significant contributor to the local economy, and Percut Pantai Village is a key player in this sector. The village's strategic location and dual-function hub make it an attractive destination for seafood traders. However, the industry faces various challenges, including the lack of visitors on weekdays and problems with fish that are easily rotten. These obstacles hinder the traders' ability to maximize their income and maintain their welfare.

Methodology

This study employed a direct interview with traders through questionnaires and secondary data collection from related agencies. A simple random sampling method was used to select a total of 30 seafood traders as the sample size. The data collected was analyzed descriptively to understand the pattern of fish auction and obstacles faced by traders. Additionally, multiple linear regression analysis was used to analyze the effect of socioeconomic factors on the income of traders.

Results

The results of this study showed that fish auction activities in TPI (fish auction place) began from morning to evening. The average income of traders was found to be Rp 5,238,212, which is significantly higher than the district minimum wage of Rp 2,015,000. This indicates that traders' net income is more than merely meeting basic needs.

The statistical analysis revealed that the F table was 3.655, which is smaller than 2,621. This means that the alternative hypotheses (H1) were accepted, indicating that socioeconomic factors significantly affected the income of seafood traders. Furthermore, the R-Square test results showed that these factors contribute 43.2% to the dependent variable, namely the merchant's income.

The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the dynamics of marine traders' income in Percut Pantai Village. The results suggest that socioeconomic factors play a significant role in determining the success of seafood traders. The study identified several obstacles faced by traders, including the lack of visitors on weekdays and problems with fish that are easily rotten.
