Introduction

The synthesis of silica mesopori materials has gained significant attention in recent years due to its potential applications in various fields, including separation, catalysis, and gas storage. In this study, we explored the use of methyl ester risinoleate as a template and orthosilicate tetraethyl (Teos) as a source of silica in the synthesis of silica mesopori materials. The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of varying the Teos mole ratio to methyl ester risinoleate on the properties of the synthesized silica material.

Materials and Methods

The synthesis of silica mesopori materials was carried out using methyl ester risinoleate as a template, Teos as a source of silica, and 3-aminopropyltrimetoxicilana (APMS) as an additional structural director (CSDA). The variation of the Teos mole ratio to methyl ester risinoleate was determined by five proportions, which were 2.9: 0.55; 2,9: 1,1; 2,9: 2,2; 2,9: 4,4; and 2.9: 8.8. The results of chromatography-mass-mass (GC-MS) gas analysis showed that the level of methyl ester risinoleate produced from the transesterification process of castor oil (Ricinus Communis L.) reached 81.596%. Furthermore, the analysis of the Fourier Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) indicated the presence of a Silanol (Si-Oh) and Siloxan (Si-O-Si) group, which is a sign of silica material.

Characterization of Silica Material

The characterization of the synthesized silica material was carried out using various techniques, including X-ray diffraction testing (XRD), Photo Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and nitrogen adsorption isothermic analysis using the Bet method. The results of XRD analysis revealed a wide diffraction peak, indicating that the silica material formed was amorphous. The SEM analysis illustrated the impact of increasing the concentration of methyl ester risinoleate in the synthesis process of silica material. Finally, the results of nitrogen adsorption isothermic analysis using the Bet method indicated that the silica material produced was mesopori, with an average diameter of the pores ranging from 2.72-8.06 nm.
