Introduction

In recent years, the prevalence of hypertension has continued to increase, but patient compliance with treatment is still low. According to Riskesdas 2018 data, around 45.6% of hypertension patients do not undergo regular treatment. The low knowledge and compliance of patients is one of the main causes of this problem. Therefore, this study aims to develop digital applications that can increase the knowledge and compliance of hypertensive patients at the Examples of the Amplas Health Center in Medan City.

This study uses a prospective cohort design involving 104 hypertensive patients. The sampling technique used is convenience sampling between August and October 2020, using the non-randomized pretest-posttest control group research design. The level of knowledge and compliance with patients is measured before and after the intervention is carried out, both using digital applications and brochures. To measure the level of knowledge, hypertension knowledge-level scale (HK-LS) is used, whereas to measure drug compliance, Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8) is used.

Results and Discussion

Statistical test results show that there are significant differences in the level of knowledge of hypertensive patients before and after getting interventions through digital applications and brochures, with a significance value of 0,000 (p <0.05). Similar results are also obtained at the patient's compliance level, which shows an increase after the same intervention, with a significance value also 0,000 (p <0.05).

From the results of this study, it can be concluded that digital applications that are developed effectively in increasing the knowledge and compliance of hypertensive patients. This application not only provides important information to patients about hypertension, but also supports them in managing medication schedules better.

Conclusion

Digital application development for hypertensive patients shows great potential in increasing knowledge and compliance with treatment. With this application, it is expected that hypertensive patients can be more active in managing their health and reducing the risk of complications that can be caused by this disease. This initiative is a positive step in an effort to improve the quality of life of hypertension patients in Indonesia.
