In the context of TB treatment, Medan Southern Puskesmas is one of the five puskesmas with the lowest healing rates in Medan City, which is 66.67%. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Drug Swallowing Supervisory Task (PMO) at the Medan Southern Puskesmas.

Background

TB is caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis, an aerobic bacteria that can live in the lungs and various other organs with high partial oxygen pressure. In the context of TB treatment, the role of PMOs is crucial in facilitating the treatment process. PMOs are responsible for reminding and watching sufferers every time they take medicine, encouraging them to undergo regular treatment at the Puskesmas, and providing counseling about various aspects related to TB to sufferers.

Methodology

This study employed a Phenomenological Descriptive Study to explore more information about the role of PMOs in the treatment of TB in the area. The results showed that PMO played an important role in facilitating TB treatment by reminding and watching sufferers every time they took medicine, and encouraging them to undergo regular treatment at the Puskesmas. In addition, PMO is also tasked with reminding and accompanying sufferers in re-examination of phlegm in accordance with the specified schedule, as well as providing counseling about various aspects related to TB to sufferers.

From the data analysis using the Collaraizi method, there are four main themes that appear related to the implementation of PMO tasks at the Medan Southern Puskesmas, namely:
