Scabies is a disease caused by the mites of Sarcoptes Scabiei that can infect human skin. This disease is zoonotic and easily transmitted between individuals and from animals to humans. Langsa City, with a prevalence of scabies reaching 28.9%, is one region with a high incidence. This study aims to analyze the influence of characteristics and behaviors, such as knowledge, attitudes, personal hygiene, and access to clean water, on the events of scabies at the Taman Harapan Orphanage and Bustanul Fikri.

The disease is caused by the mites of Sarcoptes Scabiei, which burrow into the skin and cause intense itching and discomfort. This study uses an analytical observational method with a case control design. The population studied consists of 220 orphanage children, with 118 children into samples. Of these, 59 children were diagnosed with scabies and 59 children as control groups. Data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed bivariate and multivariates with a confidence level of 95%.

The results of bivariate analysis show that there is a significant effect of knowledge (p = 0.043), attitude (p = 0.001), personal hygiene (p = 0.001), and clean water supply (p = 0.006) for the incidence of scabies. In multivariate analysis, attitudes and personal hygiene have proven to have a significant effect with the value of P 0.006 and 0.022 respectively. This shows that children with positive attitudes and good personal hygiene have a lower risk of contracting scabies. The prevalence value of risk attributes (PAR) for personal hygiene variables reaches 57%, indicating that efforts to increase personal hygiene in the orphanage are very important to reduce the incidence of disease.

The results of this study show that behavioral characteristics such as knowledge, attitudes, and personal hygiene have a significant influence on the incidence of scabies in the Taman Harapan Orphanage and Bustanul Fikri. This is consistent with previous studies that have shown that knowledge, attitudes, and personal hygiene are important factors in the prevention and control of scabies.

In conclusion, behavioral characteristics such as knowledge, attitudes, and personal hygiene have a significant influence on the incidence of scabies in the Taman Harapan Orphanage and Bustanul Fikri. Educational efforts and facilities improvement are expected to reduce the incidence of scabies among orphanage children. This is an important step in maintaining the health and welfare of children who live in orphanages.

Based on the results of this study, the following recommendations are made:

The Puskesmas is advised to conduct counseling about scabies to the orphanage children so that they understand how to prevent.
The leadership of the orphanage also needs to implement strict rules about environmental cleanliness, so that children can maintain their personal cleanliness and avoid scabies infections.
The Social Service is expected to improve orphanage facilities so that children do not need to share in using facilities, which can reduce the risk of scabies transmission.

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the study was conducted in a specific setting, the Taman Harapan Orphanage and Bustanul Fikri, and may not be generalizable to other settings. Secondly, the study relied on self-reported data, which may be subject to bias. Finally, the study did not control for other potential confounding variables that may have influenced the results.
