Introduction

The first 1000 days of life (HPK) is a crucial period for the growth and development of children. Good nutrition for 1000 HPK, starting from the beginning of pregnancy to a two-year-old child, determines the future of health, prosperity, and success of children. However, nutritional problems in pregnant women are still important issues, which have an impact on the health of the next generation. To overcome this, the 1000 HPK nutrition counseling is one of the effective solutions. Nutrition counseling is a crucial aspect of maternal and child health, and its impact on the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women cannot be overstated.

Background

The importance of nutrition counseling for pregnant women cannot be emphasized enough. A well-nourished mother is more likely to have a healthy baby, and good nutrition during pregnancy can have a lasting impact on the child's health and development. However, in many parts of the world, including Indonesia, nutritional problems in pregnant women are still prevalent. This study aims to investigate the effect of 1000 HPK nutrition counseling on the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women in the working area of the Saitnihuta Health Center, Doloksanggul District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency in 2015.

Methodology

This study used a pseudo-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test group design. A total of 62 pregnant women were divided into two groups: the treatment group (31 pregnant women) and the control group (31 pregnant women). The treatment group received nutritional counseling using the lecture method with posters, while the control group did not receive counseling. Knowledge data and attitudes of pregnant women were measured twice, namely before and after counseling was given. Data analysis was carried out using the Independent T-Test test.

Results

The results showed an increase in knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women after receiving nutritional counseling. Before counseling, 74% of pregnant women had poor knowledge, whereas after counseling, it increased to 81% with good knowledge. Likewise, with attitudes, before counseling, 65% of pregnant women had a pretty good attitude, and after counseling, it increased to 68% with a good attitude and 32% with a pretty good attitude. Data analysis shows a significant difference in knowledge scores (mean difference = 11.19; p = 0,000) and attitude (mean difference = 7.26; p = 0,000) pregnant women about nutrition 1000 HPK before and after counseling. This proves that nutrition counseling has a positive influence on the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women.

Discussion

The results of this study show that the lecture method with an effective poster in increasing the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women about nutrition 1000 HPK. This method is easy to understand, interesting, and can provide new information effectively. The use of posters as visual media helps in conveying information more clearly and interesting. The importance of the lecture method with the poster cannot be overstated, as it has proven to be an effective tool in increasing the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women.

Recommendations and Conclusions

Based on the results of this study, it is recommended for the Health Office, Puskesmas, and Midwives to use the lecture method with posters as one of the strategies in providing nutrition counseling to pregnant women. This method can be used to convey the latest information about nutrition and to promote a healthy diet for pregnant women. In conclusion, the 1000 HPK nutrition counseling has a positive influence on the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women.
