The purpose of this study was to formulate avobenzone and octil methoxycinamat in the form of nanoemulsion, which is physically stable, and to measure the effectiveness of sunscreen protection from nanoemulsions compared to its emulsion preparations. This study involved three nanoemulsion formulas with variations in Tween 80 composition as a surfactant and ethanol 96% as cosurfactants, namely: (34:26), (36:24), and (38:22). Evaluation of this preparation included testing the type of emulsion, homogeneity, density, surface tension, particle size, storage stability for 90 days at different temperatures, pH, viscosity, centrifugation test, and SPF values using UV-Vis spectrophotometer.

The results showed that Nanoemulsion F1 from Avobenzone and Metoxicinamat octils had the smallest average particle size, which is 163.31 Nm. Nanoemulsion F1 shows interesting characteristics: yellow, clear, transparent, with a distinctive odor. The test shows that the type of emulsion is M/A, with good homogeneity. The density was recorded at 1.00 g/ml and a surface tension of 43.5 dyne/cm. The stability of the preparation for 90 days is maintained at room temperature and high temperatures, but experiences the deposition of active ingredients after three days at low temperatures. Conversely, ordinary emulsions show the separation of phases after 30 days at room temperature. The Nanoemulsion F1 pH value is 7.46, with a viscosity of 75 CP. The centrifugation test results and cycling tests also showed no separation, creaming, or murky.

SPF Value and Comparison

The SPF value measured for Nanoemulsi F1 is 16.68, which is included in the category of ultra protection. As a comparison, the SPF value for the form of ordinary emulsion is 11.41, which is classified in the maximum protection category. This shows that the nanoemulsion formulation provides a higher level of protection compared to the traditional emulsion formulation.

Thus, nanoemulsion can be an innovative and effective choice in the development of sunscreen products that are better for skin protection.
