Methodology

Coriander leaf extract was produced through the maceration method, using 96% ethanol solvent and ethyl acetate. After the maceration process, the resulting solution was evaporated to obtain a thick extract. The extract concentration tested consisted of 500 mg/ml, 400 mg/ml, 300 mg/ml, 200 mg/ml, 100 mg/ml, 75 mg/ml, 50 mg/ml, 25 mg/ml, and 10 mg/ml. Testing antibacterial activity was carried out by agar diffusion method, where the inhibition zone of bacterial growth was measured to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (KHM).

The results of the analysis show that both simplicia and ethanol and ethyl acetate extracts in coriander leaves contain various secondary metabolitic compounds, including alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, steroids, saponins, and glycosides. In terms of antibacterial activity, ethanol extract and ethyl acetate proved effective, with different KHM values for each species of bacteria:

In Escherichia coli, KHM is 25 mg/ml and 50 mg/ml.
In Vibrio Cholerae, KHM is 50 mg/ml and 25 mg/ml.
In Bacillus cereus, KHM is recorded at a concentration of 10 mg/ml for both experiments.

From the results of this study, it can be concluded that ethanol and ethyl acetate extracts from coriander leaves have significant antibacterial activity to Escherichia coli, Vibrio cholerae, and Bacillus cereus. This potential is an added value for the use of coriander not only in culinary but also in the development of herbal medicines and natural therapy. Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms and effectiveness of this extract in clinical applications.
