Introduction

Grayak caterpillars (Spodoptera Litura) are one of the most destructive pests that can cause significant damage to soybean plants. In an effort to control this pest, researchers have been exploring the application of Spodoptera Litura-Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (SLNPV) with the addition of various protective materials or UV Protectants. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of adding materials such as molasses and turmeric filtrate as protective agents against S. Litura pest death and to determine the ability of these protective materials in protecting SLNPV from inactivation due to sunlight.

All treatment was exposed to direct sunlight for two hours, from 12.00 to 14.00 WIB. The results of this study indicate that the average death of grayak caterpillars with the addition of molasses protective agents reached 80%, while with the addition of turmeric filtrate reaching 53.33%. Meanwhile, the control group only showed an average death of 33.33%.

The results of this study indicate that the addition of molasses as an effective protective agent in maintaining the stability of SLNPV. The effectiveness of molasses which reaches 80% shows that this substance not only acts as a protector, but also contributes to the killing power of viruses to pests. Molasses have a high sugar content, which can increase the absorption of viruses, so it is more effective in attacking grayak caterpillars.

On the other hand, turmeric filtrate gives lower results, which is 53.33%. Nevertheless, the use of turmeric as a protective agent remains interesting to be explored further, given the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties it has. Further research is needed to identify active components in turmeric that can interact with SLNPV.
