Introduction

The use of amino acid supplementation in broiler feed has become a crucial aspect of poultry farming, as it plays a significant role in the growth and development of broilers. Among the essential amino acids, methionine and lysine are considered vital for protein and metabolic synthesis. This study aims to investigate the effect of methionine and lysine amino acid supplementation on 6 weeks old broiler carcasses.

Background

Research conducted by Tris Nelly Tarigan, under the guidance of Dr. Ir. Nurzainah Ginting, M.Sc and Dra. Irawati Bachari, took place at the Biology Laboratory, Department of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra from March to May 2009. The study employed a complete random design method (RAL) with four treatments and five replications. Each test consisted of five broilers per plot. The treatments applied were as follows:

R0: Control (feed without the addition of amino acid methionine and lysine)
R1: Feed without supplementation
R2: Feed with supplementation of 1.2% Lysine amino acids in starter feed and 1.0% in finisher feed, as well as 0.50% methionine in starter feed and 0.38% in finisher feed
R3: Feed with a 1.6% Lysin amino acid supplementation in starter feed and 1.4% in finisher feed, and methionin 0.75% on starter feed and 0.63% in finisher feed

Methodology

The parameters measured in this study included the weight of the slaughter, carcass weight, the percentage of carcass, and the weight of the abdominal fat. The results showed that the supplementation of amino acid methionine and lysine made a significant difference in the weight of the slaughter (g) with successive results of 20089; 1617.8; 1685.6; and 1654.6. The weight of the carcass (g) obtained was 1677.84; 1283.86; 1316.32; and 1265.12. In addition, the weight of abdominal fat (G) showed the results of 49.84; 35.36; 34.32; and 27.12. Nevertheless, there was no significant difference in the percentage of carcass (%), each of which was 81.16; 77.64; 78.92; and 77.31.

Results and Discussion

The supplementation of amino acid methionine and lysine in broiler feed has a positive impact that can be seen from the increase in the weight of slaughtering and carcass weight. Methionine and lysine are essential amino acids that play an important role in protein and metabolic synthesis. Both are very important in the process of growth and development of broiler, which affects the final results of the carcass produced.

From the results of the study, it appears that the treatment of R3 using the highest dose of amino acids gives the best results on the weight of slaughtering and carcass weight. This shows that the use of amino acids in broiler feed rations needs to be considered the right dosage and formulation in order to maximize the growth and carcass results.

However, although there are significant differences in the weight parameters of slaughtering, carcass, and abdominal fat, a relatively stable percentage of carcass shows that nutritional management in feed does not affect the proportion of carcass in the broiler body. This is important for farmers to consider the costs and benefits in the use of amino acids in feed.

Conclusion

With this knowledge, breeders can make better decisions about feed rations for broilers to achieve optimal productivity and better carcass quality. This research emphasizes the importance of further research to explore the benefits of various formulas and feed compositions that can increase the final outcome of broilers.

This study has some limitations that should be considered. The study was conducted on a small scale, and the results may not be generalizable to larger populations. Additionally, the study only investigated the effect of methionine and lysine amino acid supplementation on 6 weeks old broiler carcasses, and further research should be conducted to investigate the effect of other amino acids on broiler growth and carcass quality.
