The Sumatran Orangutan, scientifically known as Pongo Abelii, is a critically endangered species found in the northern part of the island of Sumatra. The population of this majestic creature continues to face numerous threats, including habitat destruction and hunting. The most dominant tree type was Shorea Parvifolia, while the most dominant clan was Shorea and the most dominant tribe was Dipterocarpaceae. These findings are crucial in understanding the habitat of Sumatran Orangutans and the importance of preserving their natural environment.

During the observation period, a total of 58 species of trees were found to be used by orangutans as a nesting place. The results showed that there were 99 nests in observations I and 50 nests in observation II. From these results, Litsea Firm (Dipterocarpaceae) was identified as the tree type most widely used by orangutans to nest. This finding is significant, as it highlights the importance of preserving the Dipterocarpaceae tribe, which plays a crucial role in the habitat of Sumatran Orangutans.

The population density of Sumatran orangutans in Bukit Lawang was calculated to be 0.832 ± 0.635 individuals/km² in observation I and decreased to 0.421 ± 0.246 individuals/km² in observation II.
