Introduction

Land classification is a crucial process in understanding the characteristics and potential of land for various uses, including agriculture, forestry, and urban development. In the Sickop area, Siais District, South Tapanuli Regency, land classification is essential to determine the suitability of land for different purposes and to develop effective management strategies. This study aims to classify land in the Sickop area based on the 2003 USDA Soil Taxonomy to the subgroup level category.

Methodology

The research process involved several stages, including:

Study of the area: The Sickop area was studied to understand its geographical and geological characteristics.
Selection and division of research areas: Two research areas, P₁ and P₂, were selected and divided based on their slope and texture.
Making soil profiles: Soil profiles were created for each research area to understand the soil's physical and chemical properties.
Soil sampling: Soil samples were collected from each research area to analyze their chemical and physical properties.

Al saturation: 0 to 90.16%

Horizon Classification

The horizon classification of the Epipedon (epipedon) on P₁ and P₂ is the oxycap, as they do not meet the criteria of other Horizon Having. The Endopedon (endopedon) horizon in P₁ is oxic, whereas in P₂ is cambik.

Based on the 2003 USDA land taxonomy key, P₁ land was classified as follows:
