Introduction

The announcement of dividend is a significant event in the investment world, particularly in the banking sector listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange (BEJ). This study aims to investigate the effect of dividend announcements on changes in stock prices in the banking industry on the Jakarta Stock Exchange. The research was conducted by observing data for 41 days, consisting of 20 days before and 20 days after the ex-deliver date, with the ex-deliver date as the starting point of observation.

Research Methodology

In this study, the test was carried out to determine the price reaction to the announcement of dividend using the abnormal return test. The methodology taken is based on the CAPM (Capital Asset Pricing Model) concept and is applied by the paired sample t-test test. The CAPM is a widely used model in finance that helps investors understand the relationship between risk and return on investments. The paired sample t-test is a statistical test used to compare the means of two related groups.

Analysis of Results

The results of this study illustrate that dividend announcements have a clear impact on stock price movements. The price reduction before the ex-dividend date can be explained with the assumption that investors may estimate the reduction in the value of shares after dividend distribution. Conversely, the price increase after the announcement shows that the market responds positively to the announcement of dividends, which can increase investor confidence in the company's prospects.
