Analysis of Factors Affecting Fishermen's Revenue and Perception of the Income Improvement Program: A Case Study of Fine Jaring Village, Secanggang District, Langkat Regency

Introduction

Fishermen play a vital role in providing the world with a diverse range of seafood, but their lives are often marked by low income and limited economic opportunities. To address this issue, governments have launched various programs aimed at improving the welfare of fishermen. However, the effectiveness of these programs is often questioned. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence fishermen's income and assess their perception of the income improvement program in the village of Fine Jaring, Secanggang District, Langkat Regency.

Methodology

This study involved 50 fishermen as respondents, selected using a simple random sampling method. The respondents were divided into two groups: 40 fishermen who did not receive any assistance program and 10 fishermen who received the Capture Business Development Program (PUMP). Data was collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive methods, Likert scale, and multiple linear regression.

Factors Affecting Fishermen's Income

The results of this study showed that working capital and experience had a positive and significant influence on fishermen's income. This means that fishermen with greater capital and longer experience tend to have higher income. However, the variable labor (working hours) and the selling price of fish did not show a significant effect on income.

Internal Factors: The Key to Increasing Fishermen's Income

The findings of this study indicate that internal factors such as capital and experience are the main keys to increasing fishermen's income. Limited capital and lack of practical experience in catching fish are the main obstacles faced by fishermen.
