Analysis of the Feasibility of Cassava Farming (Manihot Esculenta Crantz) in Karang Tengah Village, Serbuan District, Serdang Bedagai Regency

Introduction

Cassava or Cassava (Manihot Esculenta Crantz) is one of the food agricultural commodities that has great potential to support economic growth. In the context of Karang Tengah Village, Serba Jadi District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, known as the largest producer of cassava in North Sumatra, it is essential to conduct a comprehensive analysis related to the cost of production, income, and feasibility of the farming of cassava. This research aims to investigate the feasibility of cassava farming in the study area and provide recommendations for the government and related stakeholders to support farmers.

Methodology

This research was conducted by the purposive sampling method, which identified the sample intentionally. Of the total population, 52 samples were obtained using the Slovin formula. The data collected was then analyzed using descriptive methods and the formula for production costs, income, and feasibility analysis.

Results

The results of the analysis show that the average production cost reaches Rp. 7,810,447, while the average revenue obtained by farmers reached Rp. 25,794,639. Thus, the average income earned by cassava farmers in the study area is Rp. 17,984,193. The success of the cassava farmer business in Karang Tengah Village can be assessed from the value of the revenue ratio to the cost (R/C Ratio) which reaches 3.50, which means the results of revenue are much higher than the costs incurred.

Analyzing deeper about production costs, income, and profits is very important to understand why cassava is a profitable commodity. Production costs include seed costs, fertilizer, plant maintenance, and labor costs. In Karang Tengah Village, farmers generally use the land that is optimally available, which contributes to cost efficiency.

Therefore, it is recommended to the government and related stakeholders to support farmers by providing access to more modern agricultural technology, training, and marketing facilities to increase the competitiveness of cassava products in the market.
