Introduction

Medan, one of the largest cities in Indonesia, is a melting pot of diverse cultures. Among the various ethnic groups that contribute to the city's cultural wealth is the Tamil community. This study aims to explore the relationship between ethnic identity and Universal-Diverse Orientation in the Tamil community in Medan.

These instruments were used to collect data from the Tamil community in Medan to determine the relationship between ethnic identity and Universal-Diverse Orientation.

Results

The results of the data analysis showed a significant relationship between ethnic identity and Universal-Diverse Orientation. This finding indicates that although strong ethnic identity can bring about a sense of unity and solidarity within a group, individuals in the Tamil society can also develop an open attitude and respect differences. This shows that the Tamil community in Medan is able to maintain a balance between maintaining their cultural identity and establishing good relations with other ethnic groups.
