The Influence of Service Quality on Community Satisfaction: A Study on the Department of Transportation and Tourism of Humbang Hasundutan Regency

Introduction

The quality of public services provided by government agencies plays a crucial role in determining the level of community satisfaction. In the context of the Department of Transportation and Tourism of Humbang Hasundutan Regency, the provision of route permit services is a critical aspect that affects the daily lives of the community, particularly in the Dolok Sanggul region. This study aims to examine the effect of service quality on the satisfaction of the community user permit user in Dolok Sanggul, with a focus on the variables of physical evidence, guarantees, responsiveness, reliability, and empathy.

The Department of Transportation and Tourism of Humbang Hasundutan Regency is responsible for providing various services, including route permits, to the community. However, the quality of these services has been a subject of concern, with many community members expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs. This study seeks to investigate the relationship between service quality and community satisfaction, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of services provided by the Department of Transportation and Tourism.

Methodology

This study employed an associative method to identify the relationship between service quality (independent variables) and community satisfaction (dependent variable). The data used was obtained from 71 respondents of route permit users in Dolok Sanggul, comprising both primary and secondary data. Data analysis was carried out using SPSS 17.0 for Windows software, with validity, reliability, descriptive, and quantitative analysis tests. Quantitative analysis included multiple linear regression tests, hypothesis tests (F-test, T-test), and coefficient of determination.

Results

The results of the study showed that all service quality variables, namely physical evidence, guarantees, responsiveness, reliability, and empathy, jointly had a significant effect on the satisfaction of the route permit user in Dolok Sanggul. However, partially, the guarantee variable has the most dominant influence on community satisfaction.

This finding shows that the Dolok Sanggul community highly appreciates the guarantee given by the Humbang Hasundutan District Transportation and Tourism Office in the process of handling route permits. This can be understood because guarantees are related to the credibility and trust given by government agencies. This credibility and trust are very important for the community, especially in terms of the management of official documents that have a direct impact on the smooth running of their business.

Recommendations

Based on the results of the study, several recommendations can be given to improve the quality of services of the Department of Transportation and Tourism of Humbang Hasundutan Regency:

Increasing Guarantees: The Transportation and Tourism Department needs to focus on increasing guarantees in the process of handling route permits. This can be done by strengthening transparency, reinforcing clear procedures, and increasing officers' accountability.
Pay attention to other aspects: Although guarantees have a dominant influence, other variables such as physical evidence, responsiveness, reliability, and empathy also need attention. The improvement in these aspects will provide a more comprehensive satisfaction for the community.

Conclusion

This study proves that the quality of services provided by the Humbang Hasundutan District Transportation and Tourism Office has a significant influence on the satisfaction of the route permit user in Dolok Sanggul. Improving service quality, especially in the aspect of guarantee, will be the key to increasing public trust and satisfaction. This will have a positive impact on the image and effectiveness of the performance of the Transportation and Tourism Office of Humbang Hasundutan Regency.

Secondly, the study only used a sample of 71 respondents, which may not be sufficient to generalize the findings. Finally, the study only examined the relationship between service quality and community satisfaction, without considering other factors that may influence community satisfaction.
