Introduction

The Belanak fish (Moolgarda sid) is a species of fish that is widely found in the waters of Selotong Village, Secanggang District, Langkat Regency. This fish is one of the main catches for local fishermen and has a significant economic value. The study aims to analyze the morphometric characters, aspects of growth, and mortality levels of Belanak fish in the area. Understanding the growth pattern and mortality rate of this fish species is crucial for the management of sustainable fisheries resources and the preservation of the aquatic ecosystem.

Research Methodology

The study was conducted in the waters of Selotong Village during the period July to September 2019. A total of 122 Belanak fish were observed and taken using a special net at three taking stations. In addition, water quality measurements were also carried out to support data analysis. The data collected was grouped into two categories, namely morphometric characters and growth aspects.

Morphometric Character Analysis

Measurement of morphometric characters involves 22 fish body parameters. One important analysis is the determination of long frequency distribution, where the total length of fish is used to determine the growth pattern. The long distribution is categorized in a certain length interval and mapped in a graph to facilitate understanding of its growth patterns.

The long relationship of Belanak fish is analyzed using a statistical test, which helps in determining the condition of fish conditions. Factors such as health indicators and fish proportionality, which is calculated based on the length and weight of the fish taken, are also analyzed.

Growth Aspect

In this study, the growth pattern of Belanak fish in the village of Selongk was found to be allometric negative. This means that the growth of the length of the liver fish is faster than the weight growth. The measured growth parameters indicate that the length of the asymptotic (L∞) of this fish reaches 205.8 mm, while the growth coefficient (K) is obtained at 2.6 per year. The T0 value obtained empirically is -0.21, so that the Equation of Fish Growth with Formula:

This equation can be used to predict the growth of Belanak fish in the waters of Selotong Village.

Mortality and Exploitation

The total mortality rate (Z) calculated for Belanak fish shows a value of 530,655, with natural mortality (M) of 2,014. Analysis of exploitation rate (E) shows a very high number, which is 99.6%. This indicates that most of the deaths of Belanak fish in the waters of Selotong Village are caused by fishing activities carried out by fishermen.

This study reveals important information about the morphometric character and aspects of the growth of Belanak fish in the waters of Selotong Village. The results show that Belanak fish have a fast growth pattern and high mortality rate due to catching.
