Introduction

The field of library science and information science has undergone significant changes in recent years, driven by technological advancements and shifting user needs. As a result, researchers and practitioners in this field are constantly seeking to understand the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities. One way to achieve this understanding is through subject mapping, which involves analyzing and visualizing the relationships between different research topics and themes. This study aims to identify and analyze the form of subject mapping in the field of library science and scientific information indexed in Scopus and the Web of Science.

Research Methodology

The method used in this study is documentation, which refers to data collection from various journal articles. This process is very important to build a deep understanding of the subjects studied in the field of libraries and information science. This mapping provides insights related to trends, developing issues, and the contribution of the country in research in this field. The data collection process involved searching for journal articles in the top quartile journals in library science and information science, as listed in Scopus and the Web of Science. The search results yielded 3,327 article documents in Scopus and 3,769 article documents in the Web of Science.

Mapping Research Subject Results

The analysis of the journal articles revealed several interesting findings, which can be categorized into four main areas: mapping based on the co-word method, mapping based on keyword index, mapping based on the country's home country, and mapping source of quotation.

Mapping Based on the Co-Word Method

The co-word method involves analyzing the frequency and co-occurrence of keywords in journal articles. The results of this analysis revealed that the most common keywords in Scopus are "Social Media", "Academic Libraries", "Information Literacy", "Twitter", and "Collaboration". This shows that research is currently focused on the role of social media in academic libraries and information literacy. In contrast, the Web of Science revealed keywords such as "qualitative", "big data", and "altmetrics" as a concern, indicating a focus on qualitative research methods and technological developments in information management.

Mapping Based on Keyword Index

The keyword index method involves analyzing the frequency and distribution of keywords in journal articles. The results of this analysis revealed that the main keywords in Scopus include "human", "codes (symbol)", "chemistry", and "information". This shows diversity in an interdisciplinary approach taken by researchers. In contrast, the Web of Science revealed keywords such as "impact" and "models" reflect research that is not only theoretical, but also applicative, focusing on the impact of library science and information science.

Mapping Based on the Country's Home Country

The country's home country method involves analyzing the distribution of authors by country. The results of this analysis revealed that the dominance of authors came from the United States, Britain, and China in Scopus. This reflects academic power and research in these countries. In contrast, the Web of Science revealed that although the United States remains in the top position, writers from countries such as Brazil and Germany also contribute significantly, showing the growth of research in the region.

Mapping Source of Quotation

The source of quotation method involves analyzing the frequency and distribution of cited sources in journal articles. The results of this analysis revealed that the most quoted journals in Scopus include "Journal of Web Librarianship" and "Journal of Electronic Library". This source of quote can provide guidance on key literature that must be read by new researchers. In contrast, the Web of Science revealed journals such as "Journal of Scientometrics" and "International Journal of Information Management" as the main references, signifying the need for quality research in information management.

Additional Analysis and Explanation

From the mapping results above, it appears that there is consistency in the theme and research subjects in both databases. Focus on social media and information literacy shows that researchers are increasingly aware of the importance of technology in the context of modern libraries. In addition, with many studies originating from countries with established education systems, we can conclude that the support of educational institutions and research funding greatly affects academic productivity. This research also provides insight for library managers and academics to adapt to existing trends, as well as preparing the resources needed in facing the challenges of the current information age.
