Introduction

Pantai Labu District is a developing coastal area with various human activities that have an impact on the quality of the waters. The increasing population and economic growth in this area have led to an increase in industrial and domestic waste, which can pollute the waters and harm the aquatic ecosystem. Therefore, it is essential to monitor and maintain the water quality in this area to ensure the sustainability of the resources and the health of the people who depend on them.

The Role of Macrozoobentos in Water Quality Analysis

Research on water quality can be done through biological analysis, such as macrozoobentos. Macrozoobentos are small organisms that live at the bottom of the waters and are sensitive to environmental changes. Therefore, their existence and diversity reflect the condition of the water ecosystem. By analyzing the diversity and abundance of macrozoobentos, we can assess the water quality and identify potential pollution sources.

In this study, macrozoobenthos and identification and measurement of physical parameters and water chemistry were carried out. Data analysis includes analysis of diversity (K), relative diversity (KR), frequency of appearance (FK), Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H '), ecosystem index (E'), and species diversity index (IS) macrozoobentos. In addition, an analysis of physical and water chemical parameters and Pearson correlation analysis used SPSS 21.0, as well as the Calculation of Pollution Index.

Sampling Stations and Macrozoobentos Diversity

The study was conducted at 5 stations in Pantai Labu District, with a total of 37 species of macrozoobentos identified. Station 1 has a high macrozoobentos diversity, while station 2 and station 3 show low diversity. Community analysis shows that each station does not have the same species among the points of taking.

The results showed that station 1 has a high macrozoobentos diversity, while station 2 and station 3 show low diversity. Conversely, stations 2 and station 3, with lower diversity, may be influenced by more intensive human pollution or activity, such as domestic or industrial waste.

By relying on the pollution index, we can conclude that although the first two stations are in a good category, station 3 shows a disturbance in water quality. This is a concern, because it can have an impact on the whole ecosystem and the lives of people who depend on these aquatic resources.
