Introduction
The increasing demand for sustainable agricultural practices has led to a growing interest in the utilization of microorganisms in accelerating the decomposition of organic matter. This study aims to isolate and identify cellulolytic fungi found in the fall of oil palm stems in the land of PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Laras Business Unit, with the ultimate goal of finding potential cellulolytic mushrooms that can break down palm stem pieces.

First, the isolation and refinement of cellulolytic fungi were carried out from samples taken from two different areas: an infected land of ganoderma mushrooms and an uninfected area. The isolation process was carried out randomly using the specific media Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC). In the second stage, macroscopic identification was carried out to observe the form of the morphology of fungus that was successfully isolated. Finally, the third stage was testing the potential of cellulolytic mushrooms in oil palm stem media.
Results
The results showed that there were 16 cellulolytic fungus isolates that had different morphological forms. Of the 16 isolates, 9 isolates were found in an area infected with Ganoderma, while 7 isolates originated from uninfected areas. This shows that there is a possibility of interaction or competition between cellulolytic mushrooms and ganoderma, which can affect the existence and ability of the fungus to decompose organic matter.
Furthermore, cellulolytic mushroom isolates obtained have the ability to vary in reducing the ratio of carbon to nitrogen (C/N) in oil palm stem media. The most important result of this study was BKS-AG 1 isolates, which showed the highest decrease in the C/N ratio of 104.8 during the 14-day incubation period. This isolate shows the greatest potential in helping to speed up the process of decomposition of oil palm stems, making it a promising candidate for applications in managing agricultural waste, especially in the palm oil industry.
