Introduction

The agricultural sector plays a vital role in the economy of many countries, including Indonesia. Rice is one of the main crops grown in Indonesia, and the country is one of the world's largest rice producers. However, the success of rice farmers is often hindered by various factors, including access to land. This study aims to understand the effect of land control systems on the level of production and revenue of rice farmers in Tumpatan Village, Beringin District, Deli Serdang Regency.

Research Background

The village of Tumpatan is located in the Beringin District of Deli Serdang Regency, a region known for its fertile soil and favorable climate for rice cultivation. However, despite the favorable conditions, many farmers in the village face challenges in accessing land, which is a critical factor in determining their success. This study aims to investigate the effect of land control systems on the level of production and revenue of rice farmers in the village.

Research Methodology

This study uses a purvosive approach, which involves selecting a sample of farmers from the village. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula, and a total of 39 farmers were selected, consisting of 10 landowner farmers, 20 tenant farmers, and 9 farmers with a profit-sharing system. The data were analyzed using multiple regression methods and Different Test Anova One-way.

Production Factor Based on the Type of Land Control

The analysis shows that the factors of production that affect agricultural output vary based on the type of land control. The study found that:

Landowner farmers: land area, seed quality, and use of pesticides are the main factors that affect their production. Farmers who own their land have full control of the resources they have, which enables them to maximize their agricultural products.
Tenant farmers: the dominant factor is the availability of labor, seeds, and fertilizer. Tenant farmers often rely on other workers and materials provided by landowners, which can limit their production potential.
Farmers with a profit-sharing system: the most influential factor is land area and seed quality. Farmers in this system share results with landowners, which can influence their motivation and profits.

Revenue Analysis Based on the Land Mastery System

Interestingly, despite the differences in cost and level of production among farmers, no significant differences in income were found among farmers of landowners, tenants, and profit-sharing farmers. However, when looking in more depth, significant differences in income were found based on the type of land control. This suggests that farmers and tenants have different land use strategies and levels, which can impact their income.

Conclusion

This study highlights the importance of access to land and factors of production in determining the success of paddy rice farmers in the village of Tumpatan. Although there are challenges in land ownership, farmers with rental and profit-sharing systems can still operate, although with fluctuating income. This finding can be a reference for stakeholders to formulate policies that support sustainable agricultural development and provide solutions for farmers who face land ownership problems.
