User Perception of Digital Services in North Sumatra State Islamic University Library Using Libqual+TM Method

Introduction

The North Sumatra State Islamic University Library (UINSU) has been a vital resource for students, faculty, and staff in the pursuit of knowledge and academic excellence. In today's digital age, the library's digital services play a crucial role in supporting the learning and research needs of its users. However, the effectiveness of these services depends on the user's perception and satisfaction. This study aims to investigate the user perceptions of digital services in UINSU library using the Libqual+TM method, which is a widely used tool for assessing library services.

Methodology

This study employed a descriptive research method, which involved collecting data through questionnaires and literature studies. The population of this study consisted of 600 digital service users in UINSU library during the period of April 2017 to April 2018. A sample of 86 users was selected using the Slovin formula and accidental sampling techniques. The data collected was analyzed to identify the user perceptions of digital services in UINSU library based on the three main dimensions of Libqual+TM: Affect of Service, Information Control, and Library as Place.

Results

The results of this study showed that overall, user perceptions of digital services in UINSU library are classified as positive. In the Affect of Service dimension, the majority of users are satisfied with the services provided by the librarian. However, there are some users who still feel unsatisfied, indicating the existence of space for improvement in aspects of service interaction. This shows the importance of increasing communication skills and librarian services to be more responsive to user needs.
