Introduction

Maintaining a clean and healthy environment in the household is crucial for the overall well-being of family members. Clean and Healthy Behavior (PHBS) is a vital aspect of public health that plays a significant role in maintaining family health. The head of the family has a significant influence on the implementation of PHBS in the household. This study aims to analyze the influence of the knowledge and attitude of the head of the family towards the application of PHBS in the household of Aek Korsik Village, Aek Kuo District, North Labuhanbatu Regency in 2013.

Background

Family health is an essential foundation for public health. The head of the family has a significant influence on the health and well-being of family members. PHBS is a crucial aspect of maintaining family health, and its implementation in the household is essential for a healthy and prosperous society. However, the implementation of PHBS in the household is often hindered by various factors, including lack of knowledge and attitude.

Methodology

This study uses an analytic method with a descriptive survey design. The research population consisted of all family heads (KK) in Aek Korsik Village, which amounted to 2,965 families. The research samples were taken simply randomly (simple random sampling) 100 families. The data were collected through a questionnaire that assessed the knowledge and attitude of the head of the family towards PHBS.

Results

The results showed that most of the family heads in Aek Korsik Village (58%) had not yet implemented PHBS well. Only 42% of the head of the family implemented PHBS well. Statistical analysis proves the significant influence between knowledge (p = 0.014) and attitude (p = 0.042) on the application of PHBS in the household.

Discussion

The results of this study indicate that knowledge has a more dominant influence on PHBS compared to attitudes, with the coefficient value of β of 1.117. This shows that increased knowledge of the head of the family about PHBS is a key factor in increasing the application of PHBS in the household. The head of the family plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean and healthy environment in the household. Therefore, it is essential to increase the knowledge and attitude of the head of the family towards PHBS.

Recommendations

Based on the research results, the following recommendations can be applied:

*** Increasing the Active Role of the Village Head ***: Village Heads need to work together with the community to increase knowledge about health through various educational activities and PHBS training. This will help to improve the implementation of PHBS in the household.

*** Strengthening the Role of the Puskesmas ***: Puskesmas needs to increase health and counseling promotion about PHBS, especially to the head of the family, so that they are able to apply and become an example for other family members.

*** Increasing the Participation of the Head of the Family ***: The head of the family needs to be an example in applying PHBS in the household. This will motivate other family members to participate in maintaining the cleanliness and health of the home environment.

Conclusion

By increasing the knowledge and attitude of the head of the family towards PHBS, it is hoped that the application of PHBS in the household can be improved. This will have a positive impact on family health, as well as support the realization of a healthy and prosperous society.

Limitations

This study has some limitations. The study was conducted in a specific village, and the results may not be generalizable to other areas. Additionally, the study only assessed the knowledge and attitude of the head of the family towards PHBS and did not explore other factors that may influence the implementation of PHBS in the household.
