The Relationship between Nutrition Status and Learning Achievement: A Study on Students of SDN 030434 Parjaratan, Kuta Dame Village

Introduction

Nutrition plays a vital role in the development and growth of children, and its impact on their learning achievement cannot be overstated. In Indonesia, nutritional problems are still a significant challenge, and many children suffer from malnutrition, which can lead to poor learning outcomes. This study aims to investigate the relationship between nutritional status and learning achievement among students of SDN 030434 Parjaratan, Kuta Dame Village, Kingdom District, Pakpak Bharat Regency.

Background

Nutritional problems in Indonesia are a major concern, and data shows that many people, especially children, experience problems related to their nutritional status. Malnutrition can lead to a range of health problems, including stunted growth, weakened immune systems, and poor cognitive development. In the context of education, malnutrition can have a significant impact on learning achievement, as children who are malnourished may struggle to focus, concentrate, and retain information.

Methodology

This study used a quantitative approach with an analytical observational design, involving 87 students as respondents. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling, and data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Student nutritional status was determined based on anthropometric measurements using Z-Score, while learning achievement was measured through report card results.

Results

The results of this study showed that of 87 students, 62 students (71.3%) had good nutritional status, while 25 students (28.7%) had a malnutrition status. In terms of learning achievement, 49 students (56.3%) achieved good results, while 38 students (43.7%) had poor achievements. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between nutritional status and learning achievement, with a P-value of 0.0299, which is smaller than α = 0.05.

Discussion

The results of this study suggest that there is a significant relationship between nutritional status and learning achievement among students of SDN 030434 Parjaratan. This finding is consistent with previous studies that have shown a link between nutrition and learning outcomes. The study's findings have important implications for education policymakers, teachers, and parents, highlighting the need to address nutritional problems among children to improve their learning achievement.
