Analysis of Functions and Main Activities of the Indra Community Health Service Unit of North Sumatra Province as a place for eye health references and ENT

Introduction

The provision of quality healthcare services is a crucial aspect of ensuring the well-being of individuals and communities. In the context of North Sumatra Province, the Indra Community Health Service Unit (UPT KIM) plays a vital role in providing specialized healthcare services, particularly in the areas of eye health and ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat). However, despite its importance, the UPT KIM has been facing challenges in optimizing its functions and activities, leading to a need for a thorough analysis of its main functions and activities.

Background

The phenomenon of the use of eye and ear health services in the Community Indra Health Technical Service Unit (UPT KIM) shows that patients who experience disorders of the eyes and ears, nose, and throats (ENT) are more often referred by Puskesmas in North Sumatra Province. However, the data shows that the majority of referral patients come from Medan and only from four puskesmas. This indicates the potential that UPT KIM's main functions and activities have not been running optimally in providing referral services.

Methodology

This research uses a qualitative approach and is carried out at UPT Health Community Health, Medan City. A total of eight informants were interviewed to get primary data through in-depth interview methods, observations, and document analysis. The data collected was then analyzed qualitatively to provide a clear picture of the functions and activities of UPT KIM.

Results

The results revealed that the main function of UPT KIM is to provide eye specialist health services, both inside the building and outside the building. Even so, the implementation of technical training (technical training) has not been running optimally and research and development are still limited. Nevertheless, cooperation and coordination between UPT Kim and other parties look effective.

The main activities in the field of management at UPT KIM go well, where technical activities have been carried out in accordance with applicable procedures. However, there are several additional activities that need to be improved in order to provide more comprehensive services to patients. The process of handling referrals of patients has also been going well, although there is still a need to increase socialization and promotion regarding available services.

Discussion

The findings of this study suggest that UPT KIM has been facing challenges in optimizing its functions and activities, particularly in the areas of technical training and research and development. However, the cooperation and coordination between UPT Kim and other parties look effective, indicating a potential for improvement in the provision of referral services.

However, there are several additional activities that need to be improved in order to provide more comprehensive services to patients.
