Pangkalan Susu District in Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, has emerged as a significant center for fisheries, particularly shrimp ponds. The data used in this study were obtained from various sources, including the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the North Sumatra Province Fisheries and Maritime Agency, as well as the Langkat Regency Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Office. This study also involved pond farmers from three selected villages in Pangkalan Susu District as respondents.

Shrimp cultivation has made a substantial contribution to the local economy, but several challenges need to be considered. Conversely, labor and seed factors do not show significant effects. Meanwhile, in intensively managed ponds, feed and seed factors showed a significant effect, with an elasticity coefficient of 0.538 and 0.382, respectively, while the area of land and labor did not contribute significantly to production results.

A simple linear correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between the characteristics of respondents (age, number of dependents, and business experience) with the amount of shrimp production. The results showed a positive relationship between these variables, with an elasticity coefficient value of 0.27 for age, 0.48 for dependents, and 0.36 for business experience. However, the educational variable has a weak relationship with the amount of production, with a coefficient of 0.06.
