The Study of Road Network Development Using the AHP and GIS Method for Tanjungbalai City

Introduction

Road network development plays a vital role in increasing the accessibility and mobility of the community, allowing them to achieve their goals on time. The need for road network development is increasing in line with the progress of an area, which can affect the social and economic system of the community in the region. This study aims to analyze the condition of road networks, development patterns, and set the order of priority road development in strategic areas in Tanjungbalai City.

In this study, all roads in Tanjungbalai City, which amounted to around 1,358 segments, became the subject of research. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is used to determine priority criteria in the development of the road and its weight, while the Geographic Information System (GIS) is used for spatial analysis, including knowing the number of public facilities along certain roads. In this study, there are five main criteria used for assessment, namely the underdevelopment environment index, connectivity to the public, road network status, road physical condition, and traffic. There are also 15 sub-criteria and 26 sub-criteria that support this analysis.

Methodology

The AHP method is a decision-making tool that helps to determine the relative importance of different criteria in a decision-making process. In this study, the AHP method is used to determine the priority criteria for road development and its weight. The GIS method is used for spatial analysis, including knowing the number of public facilities along certain roads.

The AHP method involves the following steps:

Gg. Macros: With an AHP score of 82, this road section is considered the fifth highest priority for development.
Gg. One House: With an AHP score of 82, this road section is considered the sixth highest priority for development.
Jln. Nusa Indah II: With an AHP score of 77, this road section is considered the seventh highest priority for development.
Gg. Cendrawasih: With an AHP score of 77, this road section is considered the eighth highest priority for development.
Jln. Garuda: With an AHP score of 77, this road section is considered the ninth highest priority for development.
Jl. Sei Karang: With an AHP score of 77, this road section is considered the tenth highest priority for development.

Additional Analysis and Explanation

Analysis using the AHP method provides a clear structure in decision making related to road development priorities. By separating the relevant criteria and giving weights to each, this study ensures that the development of infrastructure not only focuses on the number of roads built, but also considers the social and economic conditions of the community.

The use of GIS in this study provides additional dimensions in understanding the distribution of existing public facilities. This is very useful in planning the development of road networks that not only pay attention to transportation interests, but also public access to important facilities such as schools, hospitals, and other public service centers.
