Introduction

The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) is one of the largest stock exchanges in Southeast Asia, with a significant number of service companies listed on it. As a result, the quality of audit reports has become a crucial factor in maintaining investor confidence and market transparency. However, the delay in audit reports has been a persistent issue, affecting the efficiency and effectiveness of the audit process. This study aims to analyze the effect of company size, profitability, solvency, and size of the Public Accountant Firm (KAP) on the delay of audit reports on service companies registered on the IDX in the 2012 to 2015 period.

Background

The audit process is a critical component of corporate governance, providing stakeholders with an independent assessment of a company's financial statements. However, the delay in audit reports can have significant consequences, including reduced investor confidence, increased costs, and decreased transparency. All of the data were downloaded from the official IDX website at www.idx.co.id. To analyze the data, descriptive statistical analysis techniques were used.

Results

The results of this study showed that changes in company size, profitability, and KAP size have a significant effect on the delay in audit reports. However, partial solvency does not show a significant effect on the delay. When analyzed simultaneously, company size, profitability, solvency, and KAP size have been proven to have a significant influence on the delay in audit reports.

Discussion

The significant influence of company size, profitability, and KAP size on delays in the audit report shows the importance of these factors in managing the audit process in service companies. Larger company size usually means having more resources, so that it can accelerate the completion of financial statements and audits. Companies that have high profitability tend to have more incentives to produce timely reports, in order to maintain investor confidence and other stakeholders.

On the other hand, the size of the KAP also plays an important role. Larger and more experienced KAP usually has a more efficient audit process, thus helping to shorten the time of completing audit reports. This is in line with industrial practice which shows that larger public accounting firms tend to have better standards in terms of efficiency and speed.

Meanwhile, the results showing that solvency did not have a significant influence on the delay in audit reports it could be interpreted that the availability of funds and company liquidity did not always have a direct impact on the speed of completing audit reports. This may be caused by the internal complexity faced by the company in preparing financial statements or external conditions that affect the audit process.

This research provides valuable insights for service companies and auditors, as well as other stakeholders. By understanding the factors that influence the delay in audit reports, companies can take steps to improve the process and improve efficiency, which in turn can increase transparency and trust in the market.
