In this study, we propose the use of image processing and probabilistic neural networks (PNN) to classify three species of fish included in the Scombridae family, namely skipjack fish, tuna, and tuna that are in land (out of water).

The Scombridae family is one of the largest families of fish, with over 50 species. However, the classification of fish species within this family is often difficult due to the similarities in their physical characteristics. In this study, we used a total of 141 images, consisting of 112 images as training data and 29 images as testing data. The images were collected from various sources, including online databases and field observations. The feature extraction process was done using the combination of GIM, GLCM, and HSV methods. The PNN model was trained using the training data, and the performance of the model was evaluated using the testing data.

Research Result

Based on the research involving 112 images as training data and 29 images as testing data, this classification model shows a fairly high level of accuracy, which is 89.65%. These results indicate that the combination of feature extraction methods selected and the use of PNN as a classification method can produce accurate fish species introduction.
