Background

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a serious problem that threatens Indonesia and the world. HIV infection is a major public health concern, leading to a multidimensional crisis and even death, because once infected, this virus will remain in the body. HIV transmission through risk behavior and blood transfusion reaches 90%. Since 1990, more and more blood donors have been found infected with HIV. This increase makes the importance of HIV early detection through Rapid Test HIV three effective and accurate methods. This study aims to reveal the relationship between risk factors in blood donors with positive reactive results of HIV on the Rapid Test HIV three methods in PMI Medan.

Methodology

This study uses a diagnostic test method with Rapid Test HIV three methods in the blood sample donor is risky at the donor location. Data was collected from December 2015 to June 2016. Inclusion criteria include:

Donors who meet the requirements of PMI donors
Risk donors such as drug abusers, tattooed/piercings, free sexual intercourse, homosexuals, have had skin treatment, and have received blood transfusions.

Exclusion criteria include:

Donors who do not meet the requirements of PMI donors
Donors who are not willing to follow research.

Primary data collection is done directly at the donor location. The use of Rapid Test HIV three methods is a crucial aspect of this study, as it provides an accurate and effective way to detect HIV infections.

Results

The results showed a significant relationship between the positive reactive incidence of HIV in Rapid HIV test three methods with the value of P = 0.031. Most positive reactive cases have more than one risk factor. Of the 75 blood samples at risk, found 19 blood samples (0.25%) positive reactive HIV and 6 samples (0.08%) Indeterminate. The most effective reagent for examination is oncoprobe. These findings highlight the importance of identifying risk factors in blood donors and the need for early screening to prevent HIV transmission.

Conclusion

This study proves that there is a relationship between risk factors and the positive results of HIV positive HIV Test HIV three methods. Patients with positive reactive results HIV have more than one risk factor. This finding is evidence of the importance of HIV early screening in blood donors to prevent transmission through blood transfusion. It is essential to continue to increase public education and awareness about HIV and the risk factors for reducing the number of HIV transmission in the future.

This study provides important information about the relationship of risk factors with the positive results of HIV positive HIV test HIV three methods at PMI Medan. The results of this study can be taken into consideration to increase efforts to prevent HIV transmission through blood transfusion.
