Introduction

Financial inclusion is a crucial concept that refers to the access and benefits of formal financial systems for all economic actors. It is an essential tool for reducing poverty and inequality in emerging market countries. This study examines the impact of financial inclusion on poverty and inequality in 15 countries included in the category of emerging markets between 2011 to 2016, producing 90 state data. The main focus of this research is to understand how various factors, including per capita income, poverty level, school length, inflation, income inequality, and dependency rate, interact with financial inclusion.

Methodology

This study uses a quantitative approach, analyzing secondary data taken from annual reports obtained from institutions such as the World Bank, Fred Economic Data, and International Monetary Funds (IMF), as well as the UN Development Program (UNDP). The dependent variable used includes income per capita, poverty, the average length of school, inflation, inequality, and dependency rate. Meanwhile, the independent variable is financial inclusion.

Results

The results showed that there was a negative relationship between per capita income, poverty rate, and an average length of school length to financial inclusion. This indicates that an increase in per capita income and education can contribute to a decrease in financial inclusion. Conversely, the dependency rate, inflation, and income inequality show a positive effect on financial inclusion. In other words, the higher the dependency rate and inflation, the greater the possibility of financial inclusion.

Financial inclusion can be considered a bridge that connects different economic actors, providing access to those who were previously marginalized from the formal financial system. This is important in the context of developing countries, where poverty and inequality are often an interrelated problem.
