Introduction

Parenting children with autism has become a growing concern for many families worldwide. The care process carried out by parents of children with special needs, especially in the context of education, is a crucial aspect of their development and growth. The parenting applied by parents greatly affects the education, growth, and development of children with autism. Therefore, it is essential to understand how family involvement in formal education can be done. This study aims to explain the parenting given by parents in educating and caring for autistic children, as well as their attitudes towards the education of these children.

Background

Autism is a neurological disorder that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior. Children with autism require special care and support to help them develop and reach their full potential. The family plays a vital role in providing this support, and the parenting style adopted by parents can significantly impact the child's education and development. In this study, we will explore the parenting styles adopted by parents of children with autism and their attitudes towards education.

Methodology

This study uses descriptive qualitative methods by involving individuals as research subjects. The research location was conducted at the "Alifah Education House Foundation," with five participating informants. The data collected through in-depth interviews and observations were analyzed to identify the parenting styles adopted by parents and their attitudes towards education.

Results

The results of this study showed that the family tried to make autistic clinical therapy a bridge to help the development and education of children with autism. The influence of the family on children's education cannot be separated from the structure and dynamics of the family itself. Children as important members of the family have a role in shaping the overall family structure. Through different parenting, parents can provide the support needed by autistic children to achieve their maximum potential.

Parenting Styles

In this study, three types of parenting were identified as adopted by parents, namely authoritarian, permissive, and democratic parenting. Each parenting has its own characteristics and impact on child development. For example, authoritarian parenting that tends to rigid can cause pressure in children, while permissive parenting that is too free can make children lose direction. On the other hand, a balanced democratic parenting between boundaries and freedom tends to provide space for children to develop well.

Factors Affecting Parenting

From the background of the informants, it was found that the level of education and different types of work also affected their ways in caring for autistic children. For example, parents with higher education tend to better understand various educational methods that can be applied, while parents with a lower educational background may face difficulties in finding appropriate information.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the parenting applied by parents to autistic children is very influential on their education and development. Better awareness and knowledge are needed from parents to adopt the right parenting in supporting children with special needs. With strong family support and involvement, autistic children can achieve optimal development, both academically and socially. This research also opens opportunities for further research in understanding various factors that contribute to parenting and education of children with autism.
