Introduction

Each individual has a dream to continue his education to a higher level. However, often financial problems are the main barrier for those who come from underprivileged families. In this context, the Indonesian government launched the Bidikmisi program as a step to provide broader access to education. This program aims to provide educational costs to prospective students who are economically unable but have good academic potential, so that they can pursue education in universities in superior study programs and graduate on time.

Background

The Bidikmisi program is a government initiative aimed at providing educational opportunities to students from low-income families. In addition, there are five Bidikmisi recipient students as the main informants and two non-investigation students as additional informants. Data collection is carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation.

The results showed that the Bidikmisi program in USU had been implemented effectively, shown through the achievement of set goals, namely:

The Bidikmisi program has helped to bridge the gap between students from low-income families and those from more affluent backgrounds. The majority of Bidikmisi recipient students are able to complete their studies in accordance with the specified time. Improve Achievements and Enthusiasm for Competing
