The Influence of K-Pop Music Videos on the Love of Domestic Music Videos Among Students of the University of North Sumatra

Introduction

The University of North Sumatra (USU) is one of the largest universities in Indonesia, with a student population of over 43,000. The university's students are exposed to various forms of music, including K-Pop and domestic music videos. This study aims to explore the influence of K-Pop music videos on the love of domestic music videos among USU students. The study uses a correlational quantitative method, with a population of all USU students and a sample of 100 respondents.

Methodology

The study uses a purposive sampling technique, where data is collected through a questionnaire. The questionnaire is designed to gather information on the respondents' viewing habits of K-Pop music videos, their love for domestic music videos, and the influence of K-Pop music videos on their love for domestic music videos. The data is analyzed using a single table analysis, cross-table analysis, determination test, and hypothesis test with the formula for the Correlations Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient through the SPSS application version 26.

Results

The results of the study show that the majority of USU students who were respondents watched K-Pop music videos 1-3 times a day. The respondents' responses to K-Pop music videos are very good, while their love for domestic music videos is considered good. However, the results of the hypothesis test show that there is no significant influence between the K-Pop music video and the love of domestic music videos among USU students. The correlation coefficient value obtained is -0.121 with the significance of SIG. (2-tailed) of 0.231. This indicates that there is no strong linear relationship between the two variables.

Deeper Analysis

The results of this study need to be understood more carefully. Although no direct effect is found, several important factors need to be considered:

Wider K-Pop Effects: This research may only measure the direct effect of K-Pop music videos on the love of domestic music videos. Other factors such as K-Pop culture as a whole, including drama and fashion, may have a greater and inconable influence in this study.
The Role of Social Media: Social media plays an important role in music consumption. Platforms such as Youtube and Tiktok allow easy access to music videos from various countries, including K-Pop and domestic music.
Individual Preference: The main factor that determines music preference is individual tastes. USU students may like K-Pop music videos for certain reasons such as the quality of production, music, or interesting choreography. This does not necessarily reduce their love for domestic music videos.
Domestic Music Video Strength: This research does not explore in depth the quality and factors that encourage the love of USU students towards domestic music videos. This is important to understand their preferences and needs.

Recommendation

Based on the findings of this study, several recommendations are made:

Advanced Research: More comprehensive further research needs to be carried out to explore broader factors, such as the influence of K-Pop culture as a whole, the role of social media, and internal factors that encourage love for domestic music.
Improving the Quality of Domestic Music Video: The domestic music industry needs to continue to improve the quality of music videos to attract the attention and interest of USU students. This can be done with a focus on creative concepts, production quality, and effective promotion through digital platforms.
Support and Promotion: It is important to continue to encourage and promote domestic music works through various platforms, including social media, radio, and television. This can help increase the visibility and appreciation of domestic music.

Conclusion

This study provides an initial understanding of the influence of K-Pop music videos among USU students. However, further research needs to be done to get a more complete and comprehensive understanding. That way, an effective strategy can be produced to increase appreciation for domestic music and develop a stronger Indonesian music industry.

Limitation of the Study

This study has several limitations, including:

Sample Size: The sample size of this study is relatively small, with only 100 respondents.
