Exploration of Medicinal Plants in Rumah Galuh Village, Sei Bingai District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra

Introduction

The existence of medicinal plants in various locations is often not widely known, and therefore, it is essential to explore and map these plants. This study aims to identify the types of existing medicinal plants and map their distribution in Rumah Galuh Village, Sei Bingai District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. The exploration of medicinal plants is a crucial aspect of understanding the biodiversity of a region and can provide valuable insights into the potential uses of these plants for medicinal purposes.

Methodology

The process of exploration of medicinal plants was carried out through an inventory using the purposive sampling method. This method allows researchers to focus more on plants that have the potential as medicine. In addition, the use of medicinal plants by the local community was known through interviews, which provided more comprehensive data. Identification of plant species was carried out through direct observation in the field. The results of this study were then mapped using the Application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which facilitated the visualization of the distribution of medicinal plants in the region.

Results

In this study, there were 39 species of medicinal plants originating from 22 families. The plants consist of various categories, such as lower plants, seedlings, stakes, poles, and trees. Among the lower plants, the fur is the most common with 50 individuals. Meanwhile, for trees, rubber dominates with 112 identified individuals. From the results of observations, the part of the plant most used by the community is the leaves. The use of medicinal plants in the village of Rumah Galuh is generally done in a simple way, namely by boiling parts of plants.
