Introduction

In today's digital age, smartphones have become an essential device for many people. With the rapid advancement of technology, the number of smartphone users is increasing exponentially. Indonesia, in particular, is ranked fourth in the world in terms of the number of smartphone users. However, with the high demand for smartphones, choosing the best device has become a challenging task. This research aims to explore the application of the Cut Off Point (COP), Fuzzy, and Technique for Order Preference Similarity to Ideal Solution (Topsis) methods in determining the best smartphones.

Methodology

This study was conducted on mathematics students at the University of North Sumatra with 100 respondents. The method used in this study includes Cut Off Point (COP) in the selection of criteria, so that seven of the twelve criteria are produced based on the natural cut off point value obtained at 2,375. Each selected criterion is represented using the Fuzzy Linear and Fuzzy Linguistic methods. The selection process was then carried out using the Topsis method, where the weight of the criteria was obtained from filling out the questionnaire by 100 respondents.

Application of the Cut Off Point (COP) Method

The COP method functions to filter out relevant and significant criteria for users. By setting the minimum criteria, this method helps focus attention on the best options that meet the requirements desired by the user. In this study, the COP method was used to select the most important criteria for determining the best smartphones. The results showed that seven of the twelve criteria were selected based on the natural cut off point value obtained at 2,375.

Application of the Fuzzy Linear and Fuzzy Linguistic Methods

The Fuzzy Linear and Fuzzy Linguistic methods were used to represent each selected criterion. These methods allow researchers to deal with uncertainty and ambiguity that often arises in the decision-making process. Smartphones available on the market often have similar features, thus making it difficult for users to choose. By using Fuzzy representation, researchers can provide a more flexible assessment of these criteria.

Application of the Topsis Method

The Topsis method is the final step in determining the best alternative. Taking into account the value of preferences, this research not only highlights popular products, but also provides useful information for consumers who want to buy smartphones that best suit their needs. The results of this study are very important because it emphasizes that storage capacity is a major factor in decision making, an aspect that is often a major concern for many smartphone users today.

Results and Discussion

The results of this study showed that the best alternative selected is the first alternative, A4, namely Oppo Reno 8T with a preference value of 0.874. Followed by alternative A1, Vivo V27E with a preference value of 0.823, alternative A3, Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G with a preference value of 0.745, alternative A2, Realme 10 Pro 5G with a preference value of 0.276, and last alternative A5, Samsung Galaxy A34 5G with a preference value of 0.204. This study also shows that the criteria for storage capacity are the criteria most needed by users in determining smartphones, with an average value of 2.93.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this study provides a deep insight about user preferences to smartphones. The application of the Cut Off Point (COP), Fuzzy, and Topsis methods in this study provides a useful guideline for individuals in choosing the ideal device in accordance with their preferences and needs. This research can also be a reference for further research in the field of technology and decision making in Indonesia.
