Introduction

Soil respiration is a vital process that involves the release of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the soil to the atmosphere. This process is primarily driven by the activity of soil microorganisms and plant roots. Various factors, including biological and environmental factors, as well as human activities, influence soil respiration. In this study, we aimed to investigate the activity of microorganisms in the rizosfir of three types of Raru (Cotylelobium spp) at two different depths in Bona Lumban Village, Tukka District, Central Tapanuli Regency.

Background

Soil respiration is a complex process that involves the interaction of various factors, including biological, environmental, and human activities. Research Methodology

This study employed a multilevel dilution method to determine the total number of microbes in the rizosfir of three types of Raru (Cotylelobium spp) at two different depths. The research design followed the Complete Randomized Design (RAL) with two factors: the soil source of the three types of Raru and the depth of the soil divided into two categories: 0-5 cm and 5-20 cm.

Results

The results of this study showed that the soil pH in the three types of Raru was classified as very sour, with a pH range of 3.5 to 3.9. The organic carbon content varied, with medium categories (2.58%, 2.77%, and 2.64%) and high categories (3.80%, 3.11%, and 3.40%). The analysis of Cation Exchange Capacity (KTK) on the soil showed that all types of Raru were classified in low criteria, with values ranging from 10.14 m.e/100g to 16.36 m.e/100g.

Analysis of Microbial Activity

The most interesting results of this study were found at a depth of 0-5 cm, where the average total soil microorganisms reached 7.26 mg/day. Conversely, at a depth of 5-20 cm, the total number of microorganisms decreased to 4.63 mg/day. This suggests that the upper layer of the soil (0-5 cm) has a higher microbial activity compared to the deeper layer (5-20 cm).

Discussion

This study provides valuable insights into the condition of the soil around Raru plants. The very sour pH of the soil may pose challenges for root growth and microorganism activity. However, the moderate to high organic carbon content suggests the presence of good organic matter, which can support the sustainability of microorganisms.

The results of this study highlight the importance of understanding the dynamics of soil respiration in Rizosfir Raru plants. By understanding the factors that influence microbial activity and soil chemistry, we can develop effective land management practices that optimize plant growth and microorganism activity.
