Introduction

North Sumatra Province, located in the northern part of Indonesia, is rich in natural resources and has been striving to achieve equitable economic development. Discussion

The results of this study indicate that the imbalance of economic development in North Sumatra can be explained by variations of three independent variables, namely investment, labor force, and allocation of regional development assistance funds by 80.7 percent. That is, other factors outside the model only affect the inequality of economic development of 19.3 percent.

This study suggests several steps that can be taken to reduce the imbalance of economic development in North Sumatra:

Improving the Quality and Quantity of Investment

Increased investment must be accompanied by an equitable allocation to all regions in North Sumatra. The government can provide physical and non-physical incentives for investors who invest in disadvantaged areas to improve the quality and quantity of investment in the area.

Increasing Employment Opportunities

The government needs to increase employment opportunities evenly in various regions. This can be done through a new job creation program and improving the quality of labor through training and education programs.

Improving the Efficiency of the Allocation of Regional Development Assistance Funds

The government needs to increase the efficiency of the allocation of regional development assistance funds to be more directed and effective in reducing economic development inequality. This can be done through a better and more transparent and transparent evaluation system of monitoring and evaluation systems as well as increasing the capacity of human resources in the receiving area of assistance.

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the study only analyzes the inequality of economic development in North Sumatra during the period 1993 to 2018. Secondly, the study only uses three independent variables, namely investment, labor force, and allocation of regional development assistance funds. Finally, the study only provides recommendations for reducing the imbalance of economic development in North Sumatra and does not provide a comprehensive solution to the problem.
